Maria Smith is vice president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta's Supervision, Regulation, and Credit (SRC) division. She oversees the District's significant service providers (SSPs), operational resiliency, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies teams. She is also responsible for SRC's shared services functions, which include business continuity, communications, facilities, information technology client services, information security, and reports and records management.

Maria joined the Atlanta Fed's Miami Branch in 1992 as an associate examiner. She later held roles of increasing responsibility that focused on asset quality, internal controls, and risk management, among other areas. In 2007, she was promoted to assistant vice president, relocated to Atlanta, and helped lead SRC's large and regional bank teams, as well as various risk functions during the Great Recession. Maria began overseeing the SSPs, operational resiliency, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies teams in 2015.

Maria's expertise, depth of knowledge, and "people first" approach to leadership is widely respected across our District and the Federal Reserve System. She served as assistant secretary/secretary to the Conference of Presidents from 2013 to 2016. From 2017 to 2018, Maria co-led the implementation of the System's Divergent Views Program for the Atlanta Fed's Supervision, Regulation, and Credit and Consumer and Community Affairs staff. Maria has been an active member of the System's Large and Foreign Banking Organizations Management Group, Risk Coordination Group, and Cybersecurity Oversight Group. At the District level, she has served as a valued member of the Bank's Human Resources Committee and FedFlex team.

Maria holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Florida International University.
